Gynaecology

Gynaecology is the branch of medicine that focuses on the care of the female reproductive system. This includes contraception, early pregnancy (including recurrent miscarriage), and issues relating to menstruation, infertility and menopause as well as sexual problems. It also addresses conditions such as fibroids, polyps and ovarian cysts.

Private GP Service

The GP service at Highgate Private Hospital complements the service you receive from your NHS GP, so there is no need to register as a patient with us, you can simply book an appointment and use the service on an odd occasion for as often as you want.

Several GPs, both male and female, consult at Highgate at different times. But, if you prefer to see a specific GP or the same person each time this is of course possible.

Early Pregnancy Scanning

The early pregnancy scan is the first pregnancy scan that you can have and is not routinely available on the NHS. It is often done if you are not sure if you are pregnant or to provide reassurance in the very early stages of your pregnancy. It is particularly reassuring for women who have experienced problems in previous pregnancies such as miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or recurrent early pregnancy loss. If you have had any bleeding or pain or any other symptoms then this scan will help
confirm viability.

Nutritional Medicine

Whether you suffer from being overweight, struggle to gain weight or find that some foods make you feel ill, expert guidance in nutrition will help you to achieve much better health. The choices you make about the food you eat can be the difference between feeling well most of the time and feeling unwell or uncomfortable. Healthy nutrition is about eating right for your body’s needs.

Our Registered Nutritionist will help to assess your eating patterns and identify areas that require attention to balance nutrition. You will discuss your goals and agree a long-lasting, healthy eating regime with advice on what changes to make such as the types of food eaten and the timing of snacks and meals.

Health Screening

Looking after oneself is a top priority for many, and health screening is an excellent way of assessing your current health and wellbeing. Our health screens are designed with an individualised approach to women with concerns in regards to their health. By undertaking a health screen you can reassure the status of your health, or potentially determine the onset or future risk of developing diseases. By catching risks or onset of disease early, you are best placed for initial treatment or preventative measures to be taken.

Cosmetic Surgery

More and more people are opting to have cosmetic surgery. At Highgate Private Hospital we offer consultations for surgical procedures. Treatments are performed by one of our experienced cosmetic surgeons who will advise on the best treatment for you and your individual needs.

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are very common, and up to one in three of us will experience them in our lifetime. Many factors can contribute to varicose veins, including other family members having them, pregnancy, ageing, occupations where individuals stand still for prolonged periods, previous DVT and gaining weight. Several treatment options are available to reduce and close your varicose veins, allowing the blood to reroute through to your healthy veins. The procedure is performed under a local anaesthetic, which means that although you will be awake, the entire area will be numb and you will not feel anything. Treatment typically takes an hour, and your consultant will advise you on the most appropriate option for your condition.

as appropriate.

Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

Flexible sigmoidoscopy uses a device called a sigmoidoscope, a thin, flexible tube that is attached to a small camera and light. The tube is inserted into your rectum and then up into your bowel. The camera relays images to a monitor, which allows doctors to check for any abnormal areas within the rectum or lower bowel that could be the result of cancer or a polyp (pre-cancerous growth).

At the time of the procedure, it is possible to remove small samples of suspected cancerous tissue or pre-cancerous polyps so that they can be tested in a laboratory.
