Eyelid Surgery
Our skin naturally loses firmness as we age and one area this is most evident is on our faces. In particular, bags can form just underneath the eyes as a result of muscles becoming slack and the skin beginning to droop. These dark bags make us look worn and tired and can be a real knock to someone’s confidence.
One possible solution is to undergo Blepharoplasty. Sometimes referred to as an ‘Eyelid Lift,’ this type of surgery aims to improve the appearance of the eye area by reducing and tightening the loose skin.
Eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper or lower eyelid, or on both. It is regularly carried out at the same time as a facelift for an overall improved facial appearance.
If you plan to have a facelift, it is recommended that you have eyelid surgery at the same time. This is to ensure a balance in terms of facial aging.

Will I have visible scars?
All scars will be well hidden as the surgery involves making incisions just underneath the lash line and along the eye socket’s natural creases.
What are the risks to my sight?
There are no risks whatsoever. The procedure is carried out on skin around the eyes and you will be left in the capable hands of a skilled, experienced surgeon.
How long do I have to stay in hospital for?
The majority of patients will be able to leave hospital the same day as their procedure, though you will be required to rest until the anaesthetic wears off. It is advised that someone else drives you home from hospital and looks after you for 24 hours following surgery. Most people are able to return to work after one week.
When will I be able to have my stiches removed?
Generally speaking, stiches are removed 3-5 days after the operation.
What is likely to happen after the procedure?
You will be given plenty of information on aftercare and pain relief. Most patients report that bruising starts to clear within a week or so, though it may take more time for the swelling to ease, as the tissue needs time to settle. There are things you can to do speed up the healing process, such as keeping your head upright for a few days and applying a cold compress.
Are there side-effects?
Every person is different, but some common side-effects for blepharoplasty include dry, watery and itchy eyes. The patient may also find that their vision is blurred for a few days after the procedure. All possible side-effects will be discussed with you before your operation. Contact lenses should not be worn for at least three weeks after surgery, and you should not apply eye make-up until your surgeon says that you can.
