Breast Augmentation is a cosmetic surgery procedure also known as breast enlargement or breast implants. It is one of the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery in the U.K. and despite the picture that is portrayed in the media, Breast Augmentation does not necessarily involve a dramatically noticeable change. The majority of Breast Augmentation procedures are more subtle, boosting the size by enhancing the natural contours of the bust-line.
There are many reasons why women opt for enhancing their bust size. Reasons can include:
Increased self-esteem and confidence in appearance
Reconstructing breasts after other forms of surgery
Loss of breast volume through pregnancy and breast-feeding
Loss of breast volume due to weight loss
Choosing any form of cosmetic surgery is an important decision. Our experienced team of professionals will ensure you have all the details you need to make an informed choice, understand the Breast Augmentation procedure and be fully prepared for the experience.
Our team of professionals will help you work out what you hope to achieve from the Breast Augmentation procedure and fully understand what is involved.
You will also decide on the size and shape of your new breasts in order to make sure they suit your frame and requirements. Your surgeon will discuss the different types of breast implants available so you are able to make an informed choice as to which is most suitable for your Breast Augmentation.
The Breast Enlargement procedure takes place under general anaesthetic and will usually take around one and a half hours to perform.
Although there are several methods for inserting the implants, the most common procedure is to insert through an incision underneath each breast, where there is a natural crease in the skin. The implants will be positioned as agreed in the consultation, to give you the shape and size you desire.
There are a range of implants which might be appropriate for you and your surgeon will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each one.
We use the full range of implants produced by Allergan™, a company that has been in the business for 25 years and their implants are FDA approved and have lifetime warranties.
This depends on your personal preference and body as there are a variety of different sizes. Your surgeon will be able to provide advice specific to you about what will work best on your frame.
We also use a unique Allergan Natrelle™ Pre-consultation kit which is designed to educate potential patients about Breast Augmentation, while allowing them to try different breast sizes, trying sample implants using a specialist profile bra.
You may be required to stay overnight in hospital immediately following your surgery and you will need to wear a supportive, surgical bra for a few weeks after the operation.
There will be some initial swelling, bruising and soreness but our trained professionals will advise you on suitable painkillers and how best to manage any discomfort. Any serious pain must be reported straight away.
It is important to avoid any strenuous lifting or physical activity during this time to give your body a chance to recover and to allow the skin time to stretch and accommodate the implants effectively.
Most people take one or two weeks off work in order to allow themselves time to rest and heal. Everybody heals at their own pace but it generally takes four to six weeks for breasts to heal and settle into their new size and shape.
Breast Augmentation procedures always involve an incision so there will be some scarring. However, as these are positioned along the lower crease line of the breasts, they will not be visible in a bra or bikini top. Scars tend to fade over time and your surgeon can provide advice on how best to assist this process.
Fees vary considerably depending on the requirements of each individual patient. If you feel that a Breast Augmentation is the procedure you are looking for, contact our team to book a consultation.
