What does Breast Reduction surgery involve?
Breast Reduction surgery removes excess breast tissue and skin to reduce the size of your bust. The most common method of doing this is to make incisions on the underside of the breasts. The nipples are then repositioned to create a higher bust-line, the skin is re-shaped and the incisions are closed with stitches.
It is also possible to incorporate a Breast Uplift into your reduction procedure, should you wish to alter the fullness and firmness of your bust.
A general anaesthetic is administered for this operation meaning you will be asleep the entire time. Breast Reduction surgery typically takes at least two hours and you will be required to spend one or two nights in the hospital afterwards.
How long is the recovery process?
It is important to take a couple of weeks off work to heal and recover after your operation – be sure not to over-do it and avoid any strenuous exercise. For the first few weeks after surgery, you will also need to wear a special bra for added support.
Initially, expect to see some swelling during the first few weeks, before your breasts settle into their new size and shape.
Will there be scars?
There will be scars from the incisions but as these are made on the underside of your breast, from the nipple to the crease beneath, scars will not be visible when you are wearing a bikini or bra. With time and the correct aftercare, scars will fade substantially.
It is important to be aware that your breasts may naturally change in size should you put on weight or get pregnant but they will not grow back after the operation.
