Breast Surgery

For some people, feeling self-conscious or insecure about their breasts can have a huge impact on both confidence and self-esteem. This is why breast-related procedures are one of the most popular types of cosmetic surgery and here at Highgate Private Hospital, we are proud to be able to offer you a first-class service with our experienced Breast Surgery Consultants. Breast surgery can help you to achieve the shape, lift and breast proportion that you have always wanted to give you that extra confidence boost!

What is cosmetic breast surgery?

At Highgate Private Hospital, we offer a number of different breast procedures, depending on your desired outcome and discussions with your specialist:

  1. Breast augmentation

This is a procedure performed to create breast enlargement with the insertion of implants into the breast, which can enhance both the size and the shape of your breasts. This is done using the natural contour of the breast to give a subtle result. Find out more about breast augmentation and our specialist experts.

  1. Breast reduction

Breast reduction surgery, also known as ‘mammoplasty’, will reduce the size of your breasts and align them, as well as improving back and neck ache caused by large breasts. Reduction surgery can also help to achieve a more up-lifted bust line. Read more about breast reduction, and our specialist experts.

  1. Breast uplift

Skin that loses its elasticity with age, weight loss and breastfeeding, can sometimes cause breasts to sag or droop. Breast uplift procedure, also known as ‘mastopexy’, can reshape the breasts to appear fuller and firmer. This can be combined with either breast augmentation or reduction within the same surgery in order to achieve an optimum result in line with your desired outcome. What to expect at Highgate Private Hospital

As part of our high-quality, holistic service, we offer initial consultations with our plastic surgery breast specialists. At this appointment, you will be able to discuss your goals and the ideal changes you would like to see in your breasts. Following this, your consultant surgeon will be able to discuss your treatment options moving forward, to establish which procedure is best suited to your needs and desired outcome. They will be able to discuss the risks and benefits of the surgery and answer any questions you might have, including what kind of results you can expect and the recovery process. During this consultation process, you will receive all the information and advice you need to make a decision on what is the correct procedure for you.

Once you have decided on a procedure, we offer preliminary consultations to allow for comprehensive planning. This can involve examination of your breasts, and further detailed discussion of your desired outcomes. Following this consultation, your specialist surgeon will be able to plan aspects such as the surgical approach to minimise post-operative scarring, if any implants will be required, and what size and type of implants should be used to give you the optimal results you want.

Our Breast Surgery Consultants have special clinical interests in:

  • Breast augmentation
  • Breast reduction
  • Mastoplexy (breast uplift procedures)
  • Reconstructive breast surgery
  • Male chest reduction

What to expect after cosmetic breast surgery

All of these procedures are performed surgically and can take approximately 1-2 hours under a general anaesthetic. This is usually followed by a short recovery period of one or two nights in hospital. Whilst staying in hospital, you will be cared for by our excellent clinical staff, who will help to make you as comfortable as possible. Your surgeon will also be able to monitor your progress, inform you about your surgery and answer any questions you might have following your procedure.

Many people require 1-2 weeks off of work to allow for healing and recovery. Most swelling and bruising from the surgery should settle after 4-6 weeks, at which point you will be able to see the final results of your new breasts!

Cosmetic breast procedures have helped change the lives of many women, improving their physical, psychological and emotional health, and transforming their confidence. Book a consultation with one of our leading plastic surgery consultants to discuss breast surgery.
