Using Liposuction to Streamline Your Silhouette
If you’ve been battling to remove excess fat and nothing seems to get rid of it, Liposuction could be an excellent solution for you.
Both men and women find Liposuction is a great way to remove those fatty deposits that don’t respond to diet and exercise, although it’s not a treatment for obesity. If you’ve got problem areas like saddlebag thighs, love handles, bingo wings (underarms), or a double chin.
Liposuction can be carried out on most areas of the body. However, there is a limit to the amount of fat that can be removed, usually less than three litres. The procedure removes the fat but does not tighten the skin so you may find that in areas such as the stomach a tummy tuck will be needed to create the firm, flat abdomen you are looking for.

Liposuction FAQs
Do I have to diet first to be considered for Liposuction?
If you are carrying much excess weight your surgeon will advise you on what you will need to do before surgery can be considered. If you just have one or more areas where there are fatty deposits then it’s unlikely you’ll be asked to diet first.
How long will I be in the hospital?
The Liposuction procedure usually requires a general anaesthetic with a one night stay in hospital or day-case depending on the number of areas to be treated.
Will there be much scarring?
Today’s Liposuction procedures use very small incisions and a hollow tube (cannula) is inserted. The fat is broken down with liquid and then a syringe or vacuum pump is used to suck it out. This means that there are very small scars and, wherever possible, these will be made in places that are easy to hide or cover. In any case, scars fade quickly and are virtually unnoticeable.
How long is the recovery time after the operation?
There is likely to be some swelling and tenderness and it may take a few weeks before everything settles down and you will see the results. You’ll need to wear a support garment for several weeks after the operation to help your body to heal well and retain your new shape. You should be able to return to work a few days after the procedure, depending on the areas that have been treated.
Will I need a special garment post-surgery?
The hospital will supply a specialist Macom™ compression garment which must be worn according to the surgeon’s instructions post-surgery.
Different types of Liposuction
