Hip replacement surgery is a common type of surgery where a painful hip joint (usually as a result of osteoarthritis) is replaced by an artificial hip joint (known as a prosthesis). Most patients needing hip replacement surgery will have osteoarthritis but other conditions that can cause hip joint damage include a hip fracture and ankylosing spondylitis. Hip replacement surgery is usually carried out when all other treatment options have failed.
Our award-winning hospital has fully-equipped theatres where surgery can be carried out and there is little or no waiting time for surgery – your treatment can start as soon as you are ready. Highgate’s team of orthopaedic surgeons are experts in performing minimally invasive hip replacement surgery which uses a smaller cut (incision) than a traditional total hip replacement. This type of surgery typically requires special tools so that the surgery team can see and do the procedure through the smaller incision.
Our specialist physiotherapy team will be on hand to offer advice and guidance, and to help you meet your mobility goals following surgery. As you’ll always be under the care of our expert multidisciplinary team, and looked after in our state-of-the-art facilities, there’s no better place for you to receive treatment.
