A blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove some of the excess skin from your eyelids. This surgery can sometimes be carried out on the NHS if the excess skin is affecting your vision. However it cannot be done on the NHS if it is solely a cosmetic problem. Excess skin can cause hoods over the upper lids or prominent folds in the lower lids. Excess fat can also give the appearance of puffiness and bags. Unflattering light casts shadows giving the appearance of dark rings. All these factors can make you look tired, older, stern and less approachable. When these problems are corrected by a ‘blepharoplasty’ or eye-lid reduction surgery, the results can be dramatic. However, it is usual for others not to notice that you have had an operation. More commonly they will comment on how well you look.

The normal ageing process includes stretching of the eyelid skin, which in this area is very thin. Fine lines and creases develop due to the activity of facial muscles in smiling and squinting. Exposure to sunlight and smoking are other factors in premature ageing and some people have an inherited tendency for their skin to age more quickly than others. Excess fat deposits around the eyes are another inherited characteristic and with age, these move forward and drop downwards to become more obvious.

Here at Highgate Private Hospital, we have an expert team of cosmetic and ophthalmic surgeons who are renowned for their expertise, knowledge and experience in carrying out eye-lid reduction surgery.

We offer all-inclusive self-pay packages for blepharoplasty procedures (terms and conditions apply) including:

  • Eye-lid reduction surgery (blepharoplasty) on one eye (from £2,605)
  • Eye-lid reduction surgery (blepharoplasty) on both eyes (from £3,540)
  • Correction of ptosis surgery and blepharoplasty on one eyelid (from £3,850)
  • Correction of ptosis surgery and blepharoplasty on both eyelids (from £5,340).

Cosmetic surgery is a big decision and our team will provide you with the support and advice you need every step of the way. All consultations are carried out with the cosmetic surgeon who will actually carry out any procedures, not a nurse or advisor and our self-pay packages include comprehensive pre- and post-surgical care.
