e-Referral Service is a service run by the NHS that lets the patient choose the hospital or clinic and book the first appointment with a specialist consultant.
Patient Choice is a government initiative introduced to give NHS patients more choice about where and when they are treated. It means that NHS patients in England who require hospital treatment will be offered a choice of hospitals or clinics for their treatment (including participating private hospitals) by their GP and one of the options could be Highgate Hospital. Further information on Patient Choice can be found on the NHS website.
Yes. However, not all of the services and treatments offered at Highgate Private Hospital are available as part of the Patient Choice scheme, only select specialties. Also the number of appointments allocated to the scheme is limited, so we may not always have availability.
When you and your GP agree that you need an appointment with a specialist, the initial hospital or clinic appointment can be booked by using the Choose and Book System.
The system allows you to choose which hospital or clinic you go to and you will also be able to choose the date and time of your appointment.
The GP can also provide you with the Appointment Request Letter including instructions, a Unique Booking Reference Number (UBRN) and the password which allows you to book the appointment at a later date on the phone or via the internet.
Average waiting time for first appointments: 7-9 days.
As a provider of NHS services, Highgate Private Hospital will mirror the medicines usage at the Whittington Health NHS Trust.
The following link takes you to the medicines formulary for the Whittington Health NHS Trust website, for which Highgate Private Hospital would like to thank the Pharmacy Department for its kind permission to use. Please Click here for more information.
