New North London group, Total Orthopaedics based at Highgate Private Hospital came together on the 24 May 2017 to undertake their own London to Brighton charity bike ride in memory of a family member donating proceeds to Cancer Research.
The newly formed group, which is made up of 7 Orthopaedic Surgeons, many of whom also practice at The Royal Free Hospital NHS Trust and specialise in sports medicine. They decided to come together for one of its members, Hip and Knee surgeon Mr Simon Mellor, whose father sadly passed away of cancer recently. Simon says, “I turned 50 and wanted to achieve something for our group and ride in honour of my father. All the guys were committed from the start. We achieved our goal together, the training paid off and we certainly now have first-hand experience of cycling related aches and pain!”
The charity bike ride was part of the group’s launch activities. Each surgeon underwent training to get fit together, months ahead of the planned ride for their new Orthopaedic & Sports Injury service based at Highgate Private Hospital.
The group plan to continue their charity bike rides throughout the year and have even discussed a bike ride in Paris once their fitness levels increase.
