Highgate Private Hospital has achieved a ‘Good’ overall rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and is rated as ‘Outstanding’ for providing 'well led' services

Highgate Private Hospital has recently been awarded an overall rating of ‘Good’ by the country’s health watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), with the ‘Well Led’ domain being rated as ‘Outstanding.’

A team of CQC inspectors visited the hospital during the 6-8th December 2016 period, as part of the CQC’s ongoing inspection programme for Independent Acute Hospitals. 

The report, which is now available on the CQC Website, specifically highlights that inspectors found the culture within the hospital to be one of openness, transparency and a willingness to learn and improve. Staff reported they were happy and proud to work for the hospital, spoke very positively of the senior management team and we're confident to raise any concerns or suggestions. The report also highlights that patients are treated with dignity and respect by every member of staff at the hospital.

Highgate Private Hospital’s Hospital Director, Mark Hawken, is delighted with the rating, giving full credit to the clinical and non-clinical staff, as well as Doctors and Medical Specialists who together make up the hospital team.

Mark Hawken said “I am so proud of the staff’s and management team’s work ethic and commitment to excellence and it is impressive to see this reflected in our CQC report. Our culture is certainly one of openness and transparency - we use patient’s feedback to continuously monitor and develop the services we offer. We also actively seek feedback from and listen to all staff team members, our doctors and medical specialists.  Whilst this is a fantastic outcome for the hospital, it is most important for our patients, who can be assured that they will receive high quality, compassionate and personalised care at Highgate Private Hospital.”

Key highlights:

  • The hospital put a strong emphasis on providing safe, effective and quality care for patients and launched a number of initiatives to support staff in providing safe care
  • The hospital monitored patient safety on a day-to-day basis
  • There were effective and well-embedded infection control procedures in place
  • Staffing levels and skills mix were planned using an acuity tool and there was enough staff on duty on every shift to ensure patient received safe care
  • Treatment was always consultant led and used evidence based best practice from the World Health Organisation (WHO), the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the Royal College guidelines
  • Feedback from patients who use the service was consistently positive and people received care at the service without delay
  • The MAC (Medical Advisory Committee) was well represented and led on discussing and developing practice and ensuring patient safety
  • The hospital had a clear and robust governance structure. Governance focused on improving patient safety, learning from patients’ experience, improving clinical effectiveness and patient experience
