Hip and knee surgery.
Mr William Bartlett is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interests in both the surgical and non-operative management of hip and knee complaints.
His main objective is to get patients back comfortably on their feet as soon as possible. He holds morning and evening clinics at Highgate Private Hospital and aims to establish an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan within a week or so of referral.
Whilst non-surgical options are always first considered, if surgery is needed Mr Bartlett will use modern and minimally invasive techniques to allow as easy and fast a return to normal as possible.
Mr Bartlett studied medicine at University College London and completed his initial surgical training on the St Bartholomew's Hospital rotation. He undertook research at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital where he investigated the novel use of laboratory grown cells to repair damaged cartilage in the knee. After completing his specialist orthopaedic and trauma training program, he returned to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital to undertake a lower limb arthoplasty (joint replacement) fellowship. During this period and following visitations to centers of excellence in central Europe and North America, he developed his interest in more complex hip & knee replacement surgery together with joint preserving surgical techniques.
He has a keen academic interest and both conducts research and reviews articles submitted to orthopaedic journals. He is responsible for the mentoring of surgeons in training and is a faculty member of Postgraduate courses at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Royal Society of Medicine and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
His interest is in all forms of hip and knee surgery, with a particular emphasis on bone preserving, less invasive joint replacement surgery. Many of his patients are young and active patients and his practice has therefore evolved to utilise modern, high performing joint prostheses that allow early recovery and closer return to normal function. He has performed over 1,000 hip and knee replacement procedures and is involved in the clinical evaluation of newly developed prostheses.
