Training and Background
Professor Clive Handler is a senior cardiologist at the Royal Free Hospital. He is an Honorary Clinical Professor in the Division of Medicine at UCL and an Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital.
He was educated at Dulwich College and graduated from Guy’s Hospital Medical School and also studied cardiology in the University of Wisconsin, USA. His cardiology and general medical training was in the main teaching hospitals in London.
He specialises in conditions causing chest pain, breathlessness, palpitation and dizzy turns, high blood pressure, cholesterol abnormalities and prevention of heart disease. He is a national and international expert in pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs) causing breathlessness and fatigue.
He is the author and editor of 13 textbooks on cardiology and cardiovascular diseases, numerous scientific papers, he is an elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians London, the European Society of Cardiology and the American College of Cardiology. He lectures in the UK and around the world and examines in finals for UCL. He serves on the selection committee for both UCL and King’s College Schools of Medicine. He is on the organising committee of the annual UCL, Imperial, Queen Mary vascular biology conference, the founder and Chairman of the St Paul’s School Medical conference for state school students, and is a Freeman of the City of London.
