Training & background:
Mrs Gillan has worked and studied for the past ten years in the fields of nutrition, nutritional therapy, weight management, nutrition support for weight loss surgery patients, chronic diseases, metabolic syndrome and digestive system disorders. She completed her training in stress management in 2003 and in nutritional therapy in 2007.
Mrs Gillan completed her PhD in Natural Sciences with Honours in 1987.
Mrs Gillan works with world-class surgeons and psychologists supporting weight loss surgery patients. She is a certified EndoBarier Nutritionist and works with patients with restrictive and malabsorptive bariatric interventions including gastric band, gastric balloon, gastric sleeve and gastric by-pass.
She holds practitioner status in FirstLine Therapy Weight Management and Therapeutic Lifestyle Programme, qualifying her to address many chronic health problems. She provides nutrition support to patients with excess body weight, eating disorders, hyperlipidemia, insulin resistance, high blood pressure and poor appetite control.
Mrs Gillan has extensive expertise in addressing a root cause of gastrointestinal disorders including IBS, gastritis, bacterial imbalance, bloating and flatulence, constipation and diarrhoea, food intolerance and allergies.
Mrs Gillan is a certified practitioner in Impedimed BioImpedance Body Composition Analysis using the Impedimed DF50 medical device. She uses the Analysis with patients wishing to improve their physical training efficiency in fat loss, muscle gain and anti-ageing programmes, as well as for monitoring baritric patients’ fat loss, muscle mass, muscle mass control in cancer and elderly patients.
Mrs Gillan is a qualified and registered Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Master Practitioner, which enables her to initiate a desired change in patient’s behaviour, motivate them and assist them in achieving their specific goals and results.
Mrs Gillan is actively involved in nutrition science research through supervision of postgraduate dissertations.
Mrs Gillan is a registered expert on bariatric nutrition with Coleman Research. She is a tutor of nutrition courses and a lecturer at secondary schools on the subjects of nutrition, healthy eating and well-being, eating disorders and optimum nutrition for children.
