Training and Background

Dr Archbold qualified in 1992 from The London Hospital Medical College where he was awarded prizes in basic clinical sciences, clinical medicine, and clinical surgery. His postgraduate training in cardiology was based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and The London Chest Hospital. He was awarded an MD by the University of London for research into heart rhythm disturbances after cardiac surgery.

Dr Archbold was appointed as a consultant in 2004. He works at Barts Heart Centre, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, as an Interventional Cardiologist, and he is The Lead Cardiologist at Newham University Hospital. He is a member of various regional and national clinical expert groups. He was the Lead Cardiologist for the North East London Cardiac Network (2008-14) and he is chair of the British Cardiovascular Society Guidelines & Practice Committee.

Dr Archbold manages patients with all types of cardiovascular problem including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, and high blood pressure. He performs coronary angiography and coronary stent procedures at Barts Heart Centre, The London Independent Hospital, and The Wellington Hospital. He is an expert in the optimisation of patients prior to non-cardiac surgery.

Dr Archbold has an interest in the training of junior doctors. He is accredited by the Royal College of Physicians as an Educational Supervisor and he is Training Program Director for Foundation Doctors at St. Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospitals.
