Your ultrasound
Ultrasound scans take between 15-30 minutes. You may need to remove some of your clothes, depending on the part of your body being scanned. You will be asked to lie down on a couch. Some cold gel will be applied to your body to enable the probe to pass easily over your skin. The images will appear on a computer screen.
Your results
Images and CDs of scans are provided to all patients, and the results will usually be sent to the doctor or consultant who referred you for the ultrasound.
Referrals
You will usually need to be referred for diagnostic imaging by a GP or other healthcare professional.
