Breast uplift

Breast uplift (or mastopexy) is an operation to reshape the breast.  The procedure restores breast fullness and firmness resulting in a more youthful and pert appearance.

Female bodyBreast uplift may be right for you, if you are happy with the volume of your breasts but would like to minimise droop.  Your breasts may have lost their shape through weight loss, following childbirth or as part of the natural ageing process.

Your cosmetic surgeon may suggest the procedure be performed alongside a breast augmentation or breast reduction in order to achieve the desired result.

The procedure

Your surgeon will discuss the most appropriate technique for you but incisions are usually made around the nipple and then vertically downwards to the crease underneath the breast.  The nipple is lifted into a better position and firmness increased by removing excess skin on the lower part of the breast.  The procedure is performed under a general anesthetic and usually takes around two hours.

Your recovery

You will need to stay overnight in hospital followed by a couple of weeks off work.  Following breast uplift surgery, you will need to wear a supportive bra continuously (night and day) and avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity for several weeks.  Scarring will occur but in time will fade to a natural skin tone.
