Allergy Clinic
Allergies are caused by exposure to a substance which provokes an exaggerated reaction of the immune system. Allergies are very common but is not known why some of us get allergies and not others.
We offer regular outpatient clinics with a Consultant Physician specialising in the assessment and treatment of allergies. Individuals undergoing assessment will be asked to complete a comprehensive questionnaire to help in the assessment of whatever allergens in the environment might be a cause. Your consultant will often work in conjunction with and refer to other specialists within the hospital including one of our qualified dieticians in the case of food allergies or an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) surgeon if surgical treatment was recommended.
We also offer allergy testing to help determine which allergen is responsible for the symptoms. Skin allergy tests are widely used and provide a result within 15 minutes. Alternatively, a blood test, known as RAST, provides results usually in a matter of days.

- Hayfever
- Asthma
- Skin rashes, urticaria or swellings
- Food allergies
- Other allergies such as rubber/latex and insect venoms.
