Flu vaccination
Everyone is at risk of catching flu, so make a positive health choice and get vaccinated to protect yourself and those around this winter.
Why should I get vaccinated?
Flu is s a common viral infection that can result in debilitating symptoms including high temperature, sweating, feeling feverish/shivery, headache, aching limbs, tiredness, sore throat with a dry cough and loss of appetite. It is extremely contagious and can be spread through coughing, sneezing or touching. People are usually infectious a day or so before the symptoms start – so it’s almost impossible to avoid.
No vaccine is 100% effective, but people who have had the flu jab are less likely to get flu and if they do get flu despite having the jab, it will probably be milder than if you hadn’t been vaccinated.
When should I get vaccinated?
The flu season hits between October and April every year. So, the best time of the year to get your flu vaccination is NOW in the autumn.
Will the flu vaccine protect me against swine flu?
The viruses that cause flu are always changing and each year the vaccine will be effective against the latest flu virus strains. As such this year's seasonal flu vaccination also includes a vaccine to protect against swine flu.
