Breast screening service
Women can now be screened for breast disease at their local private hospital due to the introduction of mammography at Highgate Hospital.
Every year, more than 44,000 British women are diagnosed with breast cancer and mammography screening is currently the only recognised method of early detection which has been shown to reduce the number of deaths from breast cancer. As such Highgate Hospital is delighted to now be able to offer women over 40 years a breast screening service that is easily accessible and convenient for the local community.
Mammograms are reported on by two Consultant Radiologists, specialising in breast disease, with results available within seven days to the patient and their GP.
The introduction of mammography at Highgate Hospital is part of the recent expansion of diagnostic services at the hospital, which now include x-ray, ultrasound and MRI as well as mammography. Allyson Budino, Imaging Services Manager at Highgate Hospital, said: “Women today are very health conscious, more so than previous generations, so we are delighted to offer this important screening service and help local women become more breast aware.”
