Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine dealing with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of the eye and vision.  Ophthalmology integrates with many other branches of medicine – for example, did you know that the commonest cause of visual impairment under the age of 65 years is diabetes? 

Our service
We offer regular outpatient clinics with Consultant Ophthalmologist to assess vision, diagnose and treat a variety of vision and eye-related problems such as: 

• Age-related macular degeneration
• Blocked tear ducts
• Cataracts  
• Cosmetic surgery (blepharoplasty)
• Diabetic retinopathy and diabetic eye disease
• Glaucoma
• Refractive surgery
• Strabismus (squint)
• Uveitis (ocular inflammation)
• Vitreo-retinal surgery

Next steps
Your GP or optician will usually need to recommend that you see a specialist, before you can be seen or treated at hospital for an eye condition.  Ask them to refer you to Highgate Hospital, then call us on 020 8341 4182 to book an appointment.
