About Heavy Menstrual Bleeding
Menorrhagia is a common disorder defined as excessive blood loss during menstruation. Every month, a woman's uterine lining builds up in preparation for possible pregnancy. The monthly menstrual cycle and resultant bleeding is the shedding of this lining when no pregnancy occurs, generally lasting for four to seven days. When excessive bleeding is prolonged for more than seven days, it is considered abnormal. Menorrhagia is a clinical condition, defined as a total blood loss exceeding eighty milliliters per cycle. Women suffering from menorrhagia commonly use more than twenty sanitary napkins or tampons in a single day.

NovaSure® System Offers New, Effective Treatment Option
Developed by Cytyc Surgical Products, the NovaSure Impedance Controlled Endometrial Ablation System is a next generation medical device approved to reduce or eliminate excessive menstrual bleeding due to benign causes in pre-menopausal women who have completed childbearing. The NovaSure System uses precisely controlled amounts of impedance controlled radio frequency energy to remove the endometrial lining of the uterus. On average, the duration of energy delivery is less than 90 seconds. Unlike other global endometrial ablation alternatives, the NovaSure procedure doesn't need any mechanical or hormonal pre-treatment and may be performed in an outpatient setting or doctor's office, with an average procedure time of 4½ minutes. The NovaSure procedure can also be performed at any time during the menstrual cycle, increasing flexibility for both patient and physician. For women who have long suffered from menorrhagia, this next-generation option provides the possibility that their extreme symptoms will be relieved and their lifestyle improved, without a dramatic or extreme effect on their body.

1.The bipolar electrode expands from the slender sheath and automatically conforms to the dimensions of the uterine cavity.
2. The system insufflates the uterine cavity with CO2 to check for cavity integrity and to ensure proper placement of the device.
3. Features a Moisture Transport Vacuum System that facilitates a complete and contoured ablation of the endometrium in approximately 90 seconds.
4. After ablation is complete, the electrode safely retracts into the sheath for easy removal.
