Ear correction, often termed pinnaplasty orotoplasty is the procedure to correct prominent ears (bat ears). Those who are unfortunate to have bat ears often grow up with taunts and teases. Cosmetic surgery advice
The ears continue to grow until the age of seven and the operation will not be considered until then but usually it is best carried out when the child understands and is able to cope with the dressings . Furthermore Highgate Hospital does not operate on children under the age of 16.
Pinnaplasty can be carried out under local or general anaesthetic and may be carried out simultaneously with most other facial surgeries.
Following surgery, the ears may be covered with a large head dressing which should be worn for one week. After this it is advisable to wear a tennis headband for six weeks, although due to the pressure of school or work, it may only be possible to wear the headband at night.
The correction of prominent ears is one of the most common and pleasing operations in cosmetic surgery. The results are everlasting giving ears a 'normal' appearence and the individual an increased level of confidence.
