Breast size is genetically determined and once developed, breasts may fluctuate in size in response to changes in weight, hormonal influences such as HRT, pregnancy and breast-feeding. For example; some volume may be lost after breast-feeding and weight loss, or the natural ageing process may leave breast with a drooping appearance. Cosmetic surgery advice

The problems arising from ladies with smaller breasts and those with larger breasts are similar. Self-consciousness, unwanted comments or sexual innuendos as well as the difficulties in buying clothes are often cited as concerns. Larger breasted ladies may also encounter physical problems such as back ache, neck pain, grooves in the shoulders from bra straps, rashes under the breasts and may also find it difficult to take part in active sport or exercise.

Solutions to these problems are available by breast reduction for the more well endowed individual, breast augmentation to increase the size of smaller chests and breast uplift which is available for those who are happy with the volume of their breasts but would like to minimise droop. Uneven breasts (asymmetric), although uncommon, is certainly not unheard of and the physical distress caused by this problem can be remedied by reducing the size of one breast or enlarging the other, whichever is more appropriate. Whatever your size or shape, your cosmetic surgeon will advise you of the most suitable procedure at your consultation.

Men also have breast tissue, and as with women, some men have more breast tissue than others often causing considerable embarassment. Neither exercise or diet will assist in establishing a 'normal' chest and the only option may be surgery. This procedure is known as gynaecomastia.

Breast surgery can be a great change, not just to body shape, but also to one's self-esteem.
