Mr Aslam trained in plastic surgery for five and half years in the NHS. During his training Mr Aslam went to United States, Mexico and Germany to specialise in cosmetic surgery. He last worked in the NHS as Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Countess of Chester Hospital. Here, he helped set up the hand unit within the department. He left the NHS in 2000.
He was nominated in ‘Who is Who in Science’ in 2001 and ‘Who is Who in Medicine’ in 2002. He is the leading exponent of facelifts performed under local anesthesia, with or without combination of twilight sedation. His facelift technique, ‘S Lift’, is registered as his trade mark. He also performs other operations such as breast enlargements.
Mr Aslam was one of the very first surgeons to popularise cosmetic surgery and bring it closer to British public, with a series of TV programmes such as ‘The Clinic’, ‘Silicone Chicks’, ‘Facelift Diaries’ and ‘Extreme makeover’; and several other media articles and presentations. Mr Aslam has also written several articles on cosmetic surgery and presented his work at international conferences.
Mr Aslam has worked actively with the Department of Health, IHA and expert groups on cosmetic surgery to improve the regulation of cosmetic industry. He has worked as panel adviser to European Academy for Cosmetic Surgery and is the academic secretary of British Association of Cosmetic Surgeons.
Mr Aslam has promoted the concept of patient led care. He is a great believer in the concept that the best way to achieve great results in cosmetic surgery is to have a close patient-surgeon partnership. He believes that understanding what a patient wants is key to the results and achieving happy patients. Mr Aslam elucidates his approach and philosophy in the following words: ‘Understanding patient desire is crucial to a successful outcome. Patient education helps to make patient desires realistic and helps them achieve satisfaction. Providing postoperative emotional support and physical care is an essential part of the job. We build partnerships with our patients based on trust, integrity and mutual respect. We maintain the highest professional standards. Each individual seeking cosmetic surgery presents a different situation and their needs and desires are unique to them. Therefore, a sensible surgeon always tailors the operation to that patient and a sensible patient chooses the right surgeon."
