Dr Meena Arunachalam

Dr Meena Arunachalam is the clinical lead and a substantive NHS consultant dermatologist at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead. She is internationally trained in the USA, UK (Oxford), Italy (Florence), and France. As a result, she is double-board certified in both the EU and the UK.

Whilst in the UK, she has worked as a consultant in key London teaching hospitals including the Royal London and UCLH.

Her special interests include dermoscopy, (which allows for the early detection of skin cancer), and was part of the UK team which ranked 2nd out of 51 countries in the recent world dermoscopy bowl. Her other interests include skin surgery, mycology, vitiligo and medical dermatology.

She consults on all areas of general dermatology and venerology in adults, including acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, mole checks, skin cancer, and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

Her other prizes include the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) grant in Denver, USA, the EADV John Stratigos Memorial Scholarship, the Pharcos Impact Factor Award for dermatology residents, and the Italian national dermatology photo award of Asian patients presented in Tuscany.

Alongside her clinical expertise and education, Dr Arunachalam has published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals utilising her expert knowledge with an impact factor of above 100. In particular, she has presented her research on vitiligo internationally at both the American Academy of Dermatology Resident’s Symposium and at the European Pigment Cell Conference.

She keeps up to date with the latest dermatology knowledge as a member of the British Association of Dermatologists, The British Association of Medical Dermatology, The Royal College of Physicians, and the British Medical Association.

In her spare time, she loves taking strolls with her husband, 18-month-old daughter and lagotto, Zico, is a foodie, and loves fashion.
