Ultrasound is a common diagnostic test that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images (sonograms) of organs, tissues or blood flow inside the body.
Our service
At Highgate Hospital we have a dedicated ultrasound facility providing state-of-the-art equipment and a speedy and personal service to patients requiring ultrasound investigations. Images and CDs of scans are provided to all patients.
Ultrasound scans take between 15-30 minutes and may be conducted for a variety of reasons including:
Antenatal

• pelvic pain or unexplained bleeding
• severe nausea or vomiting
• to assess dates and viability
• possible miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy
• baby growth measuring
• fetal wellbeing and anomaly scans
• nuchal fold screening for Down’s Sydrome.
Gynaecological
• pelvic pain
• heavy, irregular or no periods
• cancer screening
• fertility investigations.
Abdominal investigations

• vascular scans to detect DVT
