There are many different kinds and sizes of implants and your surgeon will discuss with you, not only the advantages and disadvantages of various types and shapes of implants, but also your suitability for surgery and any concerns you may have. The implant is inserted under the breast tissue via an incision in the crease underneath the breast. Breast augmentation is carried out under general anaesthetic, the operation usually takes about an hour and may require an overnight stay in hospital.
Recovery A properly fitted bra should be worn continuously for two weeks after the operation. Most people return to work within a few days but heavy lifting and strenuous exercise should be avoided until the wound has healed fully. Scarring is minimal and usually hidden in the natural crease of the breast.
